VAT Healthcheck

Whilst working in advisory at KPMG, I saw a lot of different businesses and pioneered the idea of a VAT health-check - a series of standard form questions, looking at processes, automation, invoicing, VAT recovery, record-keeping, partial exemption and many more areas. The objective is to measure the business against best in class processes using a traffic light system, and then subsequently deep dive on the areas where attention needs to be focused (red areas) or areas for improvement (orange).

​If you've not focused on VAT, this is an easy first step to review the areas to focus on. It requires a few documents and returns to be shared, and a small number of interviews within the business about current processes. The output is a PowerPoint with focus areas clearly highlighted. These risk areas can then be delved deeper into on an individual basis subsequently.
